A trial made last June in a commercial farm confirms the effectiveness of ReproPlus© on increasing the litter size, reducing the percentage of stillborn piglets, increasing the number and weight of live animals and boosting the general productivity of the sow at farrowing.
The trial group was given ReproPlus©, 10 grams/sow/day on top of the current nutritional formula, starting 45 days before farrowing until farrowing. The control group received normal feed.
All the other health, nutritional and management parameters, as well as the environmental conditions, were the same for both groups.
The analysis of the data was done taking in account the parity of the sows.
- The average total nº of piglets (live+stillborn) per sow was 4.2% (in sows with parity 1-3) and 9.1% (in sows with parity ≥4) higher in the trial groups.
- The average number of live piglets per sow was 8.3% (in sows with parity 1-3) and 7.0% (in sows with parity ≥4) higher in the trial groups.
- Usually, an increase of the litter size results in a reduction of the body weight of each animal. Thanks to the use of ReproPlus©, in this trial there was an increase of the litter size accompanied by an increase of the live body weight: the average body weight/live piglet was 7.5% (in sows with parity 1-3) and 10.5% (in sows with parity ≥4) better in the trial groups.
ReproPlus© is a combination of plant extracts, organic acids, oils rich in omega-3 and a cocktail of silicates, designed for pregnant and lactating sows and for ruminants of all ages.
