Success case: SupraPlus© to stop diarrhea in calves

In March 2019, a success case in a dairy farm showed that diarrhea problems of calves can be stoped by adding SupraPlus© to the milk replacer.

OUTLINE OF THE CASE

The animals were 28 day-old calves with diarrhea that had not responded to the treatment with antibiotics. 5 representative calves were selected to carry on the trial.

Animals were treated with SupraPlus©, 0.5ml/L, added to all the servings of milk replacer, for 3 days.

Daily intake of milk replacer, behavior of the animals and fecal score were recorded every day.

RESULTS

The fecal score is graded according to the scoring criteria shown in Table 2.

As it can be seen from the table above, there was a significant improvement of appetite and behavior of the animals after the administration of SupraPlus© for three days.

The appearance of feces went from muciform/watery to normal. At the end of the trial, the feces of all the animals were firm or soft.

Feces before the trial:

The diarrhea was severe, the feces were shapeless and watery or muciform in all the animals.

Feces after the trial:

The feces were firm or soft and shaped in all the animals.
