Success cases: solving digestive problems of free-range broilers with PlusProtect Digestive© and GrowthPlus© | PlusVet Animal Health
The management of free-range birds is labour intensive and very complex due to the uncontrolled environmental conditions. In Spring and Summer, with the hot and humid weather, keeping a healthy gut is a challenge for many producers. When antibiotics are not an option for residue and regulation concerns, plant extracts come to the rescue and are able to restore digestive health. In this article, we present three cases of free-range broiler farms, located in subtropical climates, with difficult to solve gut health diseases. All the three farms raise local breeds. Local breeds are inseparable from the free-range scenario due to their excellent adaptability under harsh environmental conditions.

Success cases: solving digestive problems of free-range broilers with PlusProtect Digestive© and GrowthPlus©

FARM Nº 1

  • Breed: Brown speckled broilers
  • Age: 55 days
  • Nº of animals: 12,000

Before the trial

Before the trial, broilers had severe gut health problems (gizzard infections, intestinal irritation, feed passage), the animals were depressed and the feed intake had not increased for 7 consecutive days.

The animals were treated with a combination of PlusProtect Digestive© and GrowthPlus© for 7 days.

After the trial

After three days of treatment, there was a significant improvement in the appearance of the feces and the signs of feed passage disappeared. The broilers were energetic and active.

When the trial finished, the increase of daily feed intake recovered to 6.67 g/broiler.

One week after the trial, digestive problems had not come back and the animals were healthy.

FARM Nº 2

  • Breed: Bearded chickens
  • Age: 20 days
  • Nº of animals: 9,000

Before the trial

Before the trial, broilers had severe gut health problems (gizzard erosions, intestinal irritation, diarrhea, gas in feces).

The animals were treated with PlusProtect Digestive©.

After the trial

After four days of treatment, there was a significant improvement in the appearance of the feces. At the end of the treatment, the diarrhea and the gas disappeared. At necropsy, the gizzards looked healthier than before.

FARM Nº 3

  • Breed: Triple yellow broilers
  • Age: 48 days
  • Nº of animals: 8,000

Before the trial

Before the trial, broilers had severe gut health problems, such us coccidiosis, necrotic enteritis and gizzard erosions.

The animals were treated with PlusProtect Digestive© for 7 days.

After the trial

At the end of the trial, there was significant improvement of the occurrence of diarrhea and the feces were shaped. There were less cases of coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis.

SUMMARY OF THE THREE SUCCESS CASES

Productos of choice

GrowthPlus© is added to feed to maintain and improve digestive health. It is formulated with synergistic ingredients:

  • Bactericidal and fungicidal plant extracts, combined with organic acids for better effectiveness, that reduce the number of pathogenic microbes in the digestive system.
  • Plant extracts with prebiotic effect, that promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut.
  • Immunostimulant and antioxidant plant extracts.
  • Silicates with mycotoxin binding function.

It is especially useful in cases of gizzard diseases, necrotic enteritis, feed passage and other enteritis.  It is also used as a natural growth promoter and to replace antibiotic growth promoters.

PlusProtect Digestive© is intended for digestive health in birds and rabbits of all ages. It is formulated with synergistic ingredients:
